Latest Updates from Our Project:

*** Important Correction Re: Multiple Copy Discount ***
almost 4 years ago – Thu, May 07, 2020 at 02:04:40 PM

Due to an internal miscommunication, we provided incorrect information about the multiple copy discount in last night's update.

We need to issue a correction and to apologize.

We wanted to address two main questions:

A) Can we pledge for a third (fourth, fifth, etc...) copy of the game, and still get 20% off the pledge price?

B) If we want a single Atomic Edition and a single Fusion Deluxe, can we still get the second-copy 20% discount?

Because of an internal message that was misunderstood, we announced that the answer to both questions was YES when it should not have been so for the first question.

The correct answer for both questions is: "For every pair of games you pledge for during the campaign, the second copy is 20% off." You can add as many of these pairs as you like, and you can mix and match Atomic and Deluxe editions to your heart's content and still get the discount if they are pledged for in pairs.

In short - if you pledge for pairs, you will get the 2nd for 20% off.

One thing we *can* still offer you is the 2-game reduced shipping rate on additional games that are not part of a pair, so you continue to get better shipping rates the more you add to your pledge.

We are still covering customs, duties, and VAT for all backers in the US, EU, CA, AU, & NZ.

You have our collective apology for this miscommunication, and we thank you for bearing with us. While a lot of things can and do go wrong with Kickstarter campaigns, this is a first for us; in five years of running campaigns we've never had to retract this kind of miscommunication, so we appreciate your patience and understanding.

For any further questions or feedback on this issue, please message [email protected], and we will answer you directly.

Mystery Inventor #1 REVEALED with Time Lapse Art Creation Video from Mr. Cuddington! Heat #2 Winner, & Two New Contenders!
almost 4 years ago – Thu, May 07, 2020 at 02:04:37 PM

TL;DR: The first person to correctly identify Mystery Inventor #1 as Sergei Korolev was Neil Mesick Jr.! Watch the time-lapse video of Mr. Cuddington creating the artwork for his inventor cards below! Beatrice "Tilly" Shilling DEFEATS Robert H. Goddard in Heat #2; Vote for the winner of Heat #3 on Facebook and Twitter now. Last chance to submit your own idea for the Promo Pack!

Our kudos to Simon Tham, Morgan Riley, Michael Morrison, Sploot, & Pierre Davatour, who brilliantly deduced the identity of our first Mystery Inventor... but the backer who was first across the finish line to claim the crown was Neil Mesick Jr.! Congratulations, Neil! (This wasn't an official contest, but Paul's going to send you a DM anyways, so we can arrange a little something to celebrate.)

To celebrate the big reveal, Mr. Cuddington has provided us this fascinating time-lapse video of their creation of Sergei Korolev:

Sergei Korolev (1907-1966)

After spending most of WWII in prison camps for allegations of treason, Korolev would then serve under his accuser Valentin Glushko, designing auxiliary rocket motors for planes to defend Moscow from German bombers. This earned Korolev the rank of colonel and he was tasked with studying a captured V-2 rocket. His interests soon extended beyond simple ballistics, and rising competition with the US (spurred by his own exaggerated press releases) secured him the resources to create and launch Sputnik 1, the first satellite. Focus shifted next towards the Moon, and though he acquired the first-ever photographs of its dark side, ongoing tensions with Glushko would scuttle his dreams of a soft Moon landing. Yet now Mars beckons, along with a new space race...

Elsie MacGill (1905-1980)

Just after completing her masters in aeronautical engineering at age 24, MacGill was diagnosed with polio and told she would probably never walk again. However, she not only regained her legs but also her wings, performing dangerous test flights for the National Research Council of Canada, and later designing and testing airplanes at Ontario’s “CanCar” company. MacGill helped to make Canada a world-class aircraft manufacturer, overseeing the production of 2000 Hurricane fighter planes for the Second World War and the retraining of hundreds of inexperienced workers. Her exploits were depicted in a 1942 comic book called “Queen of the Hurricanes.” Inspired by her mother, British Columbia’s first female judge, and her grandmother Emma Gregory, a prominent suffragist, MacGill would go on to become an outspoken feminist, advocating for women in the field of engineering.

Spede Pasanen and Beatrice "Tilly" Shilling are advancing to the semi-finals! But we will still have four more of your submissions waiting at the starting gate! Heat #3 begins NOW, between the following two all-new competitors:

Q. I'm under lockdown! Is this game still good with a low player count?

A.  We are confident that the answer is YES.

Steampunk Rally gets a lot of praise for how well it plays in large groups, but as with many drafting games, it can actually be considerably more strategic with two or three players as many of the cards you pass to your opponent will be returning to you, and deciding to Stash a Boost card before your opponent knows what it is can be deliciously exciting!

For our most up-to-date answers to your most common inquiries, we'll be regularly updating the Steampunk Rally Fusion FAQ page throughout the campaign. (And as always, our sincere thanks go out to the supporters who help each other out with answers to these in the comments section when we're AFK for the night.)

Our next update will be Tuesday, May 5, 2020, when we will reveal the winner of Promo Pack Heat #3 and the final two competitors for the promo pack!

Thank you once again, to all of you, for your continued support, participation, and positivity.

Keep rollin' NINES!

Heat #3 Winners & Two New Contenders! Now Voting on Boardgamegeek! New Mystery Inventor Clue!
almost 4 years ago – Thu, May 07, 2020 at 11:56:21 AM

TL;DR:  Karl & Bertha Benz defeat Chien-Shiang Wu in Heat #3! Vote for the winner of Heat #4 on Facebook, Twitter, and now also on Boardgamegeek! New Mystery Inventor clue below!

Alan Turing (1912-1954)

Despite a general strike in Britain, 13-year-old Turing was so set on attending his first day at boarding school that he rode the 97 kilometers on his bicycle. His passion for science, mathematics, and astronomy did not make him a favorite with the teachers there, who warned his parents of young Alan becoming a “scientific specialist.” It was there he also met his first love, a boy named Christopher Morcom who shared his passion for science but would die tragically from infected cow’s milk, galvanizing Turing’s focus. After writing a seminal Ph.D. on ordinal logic, Turing went on to be an invaluable guardian of Great Britain, cracking the uncrackable Enigma code at Bletchley Park. Mistreated badly by the government he covertly protected, Turing is acknowledged today as the father of computer science. Recruited to try and crack enigmatic Martian transmissions, Turing will no doubt put them to the test!

It's time for the hunt for the identity of our second Mystery Inventor to begin! This one feels more challenging to us... so let's see what you can do!

Clue #1: This brilliant inventor is not from the US, but first began to shine there after some great brain waves in Ohio.

As before, if you know the answer, show off your genius by posting in the comments, along with the words FINAL ANSWER.

Yesterday's vote tally was so close, we nearly had to go to the tiebreaker and measure the inventors' machines! But with the totals in, and the math double checked... KARL & BERTHA BENZ are the winners over Chien-Shiung Wu, by FOUR votes!

Mr. Cuddington will be live streaming the creation of the concept art for our first place finisher on Monday, May 11th, at 8 PM! A link for you to tune in will be in Monday's update!

 Today's Competitors

Q. Is this really delivering this fall?

A. Yes! As detailed on the main page, the game is complete and ready to go; manufacturers and shippers have been consulted and we are currently on track for freight to depart in August and fulfillment to begin in September. The biggest unknown at this point is the potential for delays related to COVID-19. While many countries around the globe are currently “reopening”, there is always risk of a second wave, which could cause delays in manufacturing and fulfillment.

For our most up-to-date answers to your most common inquiries, we'll be regularly updating the Steampunk Rally Fusion FAQ page throughout the campaign. (And as always, our sincere thanks go out to the supporters who help each other out with answers to these in the comments section when we're AFK for the night.)

Let's Have Some Fun!

What if - hypothetically speaking - Roxley could add any inventor from fiction (books, movies, video games, comics, whatever),  or any real-life modern celebrity to the game as a new promo? Who would be your dream character be, if nobody was off-limits? Post it in the comments below!

Our next update will be Thursday, May 7, 2020, when we will reveal the winner of Promo Pack Heat #4, and conduct Heat #1 of the Promo Pack Semi-Finals!

Thank you once again, to all of you, for your continued support, participation, and positivity.

EU FRIENDLY SHIPPING ADDED! New Mystery Inventor Clues! Our First Promo Pack Inventor Matchup!
almost 4 years ago – Wed, May 06, 2020 at 02:07:48 PM

TL;DR: Roxley will now cover all import duties and taxes in the EU and other indicated zones. The Mystery Inventor has not yet been identified; two new clues are below. Promo Pack voting has begun; vote on Facebook and Twitter for your favorite. We are still accepting new submissions for the Promo Pack.

We value our European fans and supporters immensely, and we want to do right by you.

We've been listening to your valuable feedback and comments, and we understand the distaste for paying VAT on top of your pledge.

Because the campaign is already launched, the most practical way to resolve this is for Roxley to absorb the additional cost, and revert to an EU Friendly model for this campaign.

Charging sales tax on Kickstarter is definitely one of the biggest challenges creators face on Kickstarter today. The way we pay our sales taxes is almost a cultural difference; in North America, sales tax is charged on top of whatever we purchase, and we prefer it to be spelled out exactly, whereas, in the EU, folks are accustomed to sales tax being already factored into the price of goods purchased.

In short: Roxley will now be prepaying all applicable duty/taxes for customers receiving their games in the EU, Canada, USA, Australia, and New Zealand, making this campaign Customs and Duty-Free for all these regions.

The shipping graphic at the bottom of the main campaign page has been updated accordingly.

Thank you so much to our EU backers.  We truly appreciate you!

As our updates continue, we'd like to shine the spotlight on some of the inventors that will be included in Steampunk Rally Fusion! So please allow us to present proof that racing sometimes really IS rocket science; an actual rocket scientist: Annie Easley!

Annie Easley (1933-2011)

With her educational path as a pharmacist derailed by the closure of Cleveland’s only program, Easley decided to apply at NASA (then NACA), after reading a story in the paper about twin sisters working there as "computers", but her work would soon transcend this. When the first non-human computers were introduced, she became an early expert at programming.

Easley’s career would encompass a variety of projects, such as rocketry and nuclear power, wind and solar energy, batteries for hybrid cars, and eventually real estate. Though she continually had to struggle against forms of discrimination, she would pass on the encouragement that her single mother had given her, advocating for minority women in STEM fields and tutoring African-Americans for the literacy test that was required for them to be able to vote under Jim Crow laws. Today, her unflappable determination in the face of adversity may be necessary, for coordinating humanity’s most audacious project yet...

Our First Two Competitors!

Step right up, race fans! Our inventors are at the starting gate, and ready to race! Today's racers are:

Pentti "Spede" Pasanen (Finland, 1930-2001): Pasanen is primarily remembered for his achievements as a director, comedian, and entertainer, and it was not unusual for his films to feature elaborate Rube Goldberg-style machines. But he was also a prolific real-life inventor, accumulating over 50 patents for industrial devices, and such diverse creations as the two-nosed car, Ski Jumping Sling, Boat Ski, and a combined motorboat/surfboard. He was obsessed with inventing a perpetual motion device, but eventually decided it was impossible instead chose to make a new film, mocking himself for the failed quest.

Leonardo da Vinci (Italy, 1452-1519): Famous for creating the Mona Lisa (and for having a Ninja Turtle named after him), da Vinci was the quintessential polymath of the Renaissance, whose many areas of interest included invention, drawing, painting, sculpture, architecture, science, music, mathematics, engineering, literature, anatomy, geology, astronomy, botany, paleontology, and cartography. He is revered for his technological ingenuity and conceptualized many inventions that would not become reality until long after his own death, including early flying machines, a type of armoured fighting vehicle, concentrated solar power, the adding machine, and the double hull.

We've still got room for SIX MORE inventors and will be accepting your submissions until Monday, May 4.

Submissions can be from any time period or culture in history, but may not be fictional (and may not be still alive). (A list of inventors already in both games will soon be added to the Google Form, as we had a few suggestions for people already in the game).

Vote for your favorite on FACEBOOK or TWITTER, and send us your new candidate HERE!

As of 3 PM MST, we had some FANTASTIC guesses and suggestions... but it appears the clue was too vague and general! So we're adding TWO clues for you today!

YESTERDAY'S CLUE: This inventor had to do much of his work anonymously but was honored after his death, and they named something big and round after him.

TODAY'S CLUE #1: This inventor has a strong connection to one of the characters in another published Roxley game.

TODAY'S CLUE #2: One of yesterday's guesses had the wrong inventor... but was right about what was named after him!

If these clues make your Light Bulb token flip, then submit your guess in the comments, with the words FINAL ANSWER. We'll confirm which one of you is the biggest genius--if someone gets it right--in the next update!

D'awww... we love you too, backers! <3

Today, we discovered that Kickstarter made us a "Backer Favorite" (they even gave us a happy face and everything!)  We didn't even know this was a thing until now - but our sincere thanks go out to everyone who helped make it happen!

Q: Are there really no stretch goals? Why not?

A: There really aren't! Instead, we've decided to include all of the planned deluxe upgrades for you from day 1! An amazing vac tray design, gradient translucent fusion dice, acrylic translucent energy dice, metal cogs, and promo pack are already included with your pledge!

For our most up-to-date answers to your most common inquiries, we'll be regularly updating the Steampunk Rally Fusion FAQ page throughout the campaign. (And as always, our sincere thanks go out to the supporters who help each other out with answers to these in the comments section when we're AFK for the night.)

Our next update will be Friday, May 1, 2020, where we will reveal the winner of the first Promo Pack Qualifier Heat and the next two backer-submitted inventors who will race to be included!

Thank you once again, to all of you, for your continued support, participation, and positivity.

Keep rollin' NINES!

We are FUNDED! THANK YOU!!!

It’s been five years since Roxley’s debut on Kickstarter with the original Steampunk Rally, and while so many things have changed in that time, there is one thing has remained the same: we are always humbled and awestruck by the level of support that you, the gaming community, have given us. Launching a Kickstarter during these uncertain times is a daunting prospect for any publisher, and we are grateful that you have chosen to invest in our vision of bringing a whole new Steampunk Rally to your game table.

So we’ll begin this update with a massive THANK YOU, to everybody who is here with us at the starting gate, and a DOUBLE thank you to all the names we recognize from along our five-year journey. YOUR support has made everything we do possible, better, and worthwhile.

We’ve got some exciting things planned for these updates, including two new Mystery Inventors, a call for YOUR inventor submissions, and more video coverage that begins TONIGHT! Read on, bold inventor, for more details!

There are four spaces available for Inventors in the Steampunk Rally Fusion Promo Pack (to be included free for all backers who pledge for at least one game during the campaign. Two of those spaces have already been claimed--but by who? In each update, we're going to reveal a clue as to one of their identities, starting with the subtle, general, or obscure, and working gradually towards bigger and better hints.

If you think you deduced the identity of one of the Mystery Inventors is, comment below with your guess, along with the words FINAL ANSWER, for your chance to achieve glory and immortality!*

(*Immortality not included. Kickstarter regulations prevent the awarding of contest prizes, especially those involving eternal life.)

CLUE #1: This inventor had to do much of his work anonymously but was honored after his death, and they named something big and round after him.

Welcome, welcome, one and all, to the first Nomination Round of the Promo Pack Qualifier!

There are two spaces remaining in the Promo Pack for Steampunk Rally Fusion, and to determine which two inventors will take those positions, we've decided to consult some of the most important authorities on the subject we could find YOU!

What real-life inventor, engineer, scientist, or genius do you want to see racing in Steampunk Rally?

Submissions can be from any time period or culture in history, but may not be fictional (and may not be still alive). Send us your suggestion using the link below, and over the course of the campaign, four popular submissions will face off against four candidates we choose from your ideas in a series of one-on-one Qualifying Heats, the winners of which will be determined by your votes on social media. The overall winner will win a coveted position in the Promo Pack, and the seven defeated candidates will face each other at the end in a seven-way Wild Card Rally, to determine who gets the last spot.
