20-07-02 - Still On Schedule! Some BackerKit FAQs
almost 4 years ago – Fri, Jul 03, 2020 at 03:55:06 AM

TL;DR: Team Roxley has been finishing files for the manufacturer; we are still on schedule. There are some BackerKit FAQs below, including what to do if you're a $1 pledger and would like a BackerKit survey.

Pachacuti (1438-1471+)

When Chanka warriors invaded Cusco, the king and his eldest son fled, but the younger son Cusi Yupanqui rallied a defense of the city so impressive that it was said the stones themselves rose to fight for him. With the Chanka defeated and his worth proven, Yupanqui was appointed the royal successor and became known as Pachacuti, roughly translated as “He Who Remakes The World.” The Inca Empire expanded under Pachacuti’s rule, spreading worship of the Sun God, and he oversaw the construction of many great architectural and engineering feats including the city of Machu Picchu which features extensive aqueducts and hundreds of terraces, all constructed without wheels, draft animals or iron tools. The city’s carefully cut stones are designed to “dance” during earthquakes, shifting without falling or cracking. Some speculate that Pachacuti’s stone warriors were in fact Martian tripods, gifted to him through an alliance after these “Sun Gods” observed the Nazca Lines, and that their cryotechnology allowed Pachacuti to seal himself within his grand city for half a millennium.

A number of common questions have been arising in the comments section, and via DM, so we'd like to address them here.

Should I worry if I missed the pledge manager deadline?

No. Payment a few days (or even a week or two late) won't be a problem. (If you forget about it until December, there might be an issue.)

I pledged $1 and thought I was getting access to the pledge manager. What gives?

We apologize for the lack of clarity; Roxley hasn't done this in our last several campaigns but we agree our wording on it could and should have been better; we are happy to send a survey to you now.  You can be set up as if you were a preorder customer, you will retain your pledge credit, retain the option for a discount on the second copy, and only pay slightly more than you would have in the end had you made a full pledge. (And no penalty against you in any way for late processing.)

To protect customers from spam (especially those covered by the EU's new GDPR legislation), We *do* need you to message [email protected] to request the survey if you want this. Please include your Kickstarter username in the email.

I'm getting a 'Honey Badger' error message when I try to fill out my survey!

Our apologies; this is a known issue. Please send us a message to report it at [email protected] if you haven't already. We are working to resolve these with BackerKit; you will be taken care of.

I still haven't gotten my pledge manager email!

If you pledged for a full pledge but haven't received a survey, you don't need to worry about the deadline, but please do message us at [email protected] if you haven't done so already. We are once again processing a very heavy volume of messaging right now, but if your message is in the queue, we will take care of you.

You can still get the Kickstarter version of the game at the Preorder Store.

Our next update will be on Thursday, July 16th, 2020.

Thank you once again, to all of you, for your continued support, participation, and positivity.

Keep rollin' NINES!

20-06-16 - Solo Mode CONFIRMED!
almost 4 years ago – Sat, Jun 20, 2020 at 08:31:08 PM

TL;DR: Solo Mode has been playtested and approved, and will be included in the rulebook.

Like To Go It Alone?

Team Roxley is pleased to officially confirm that designer Orin Bishop's proposed solitaire rules have passed through the playtesting and development process in time to be approved for the final rulebook, and will thus be included for all backers! THANK YOU to all of the volunteers who helped the team with your fast and thorough work on this (and to the dozens of others who offered to volunteer, but didn't get the chance this time).

Marie Marvingt (1875-1963)

An affinity for bobsledding, skiing, rifle shooting, fencing, gymnastics, swimming, cycling, horseback riding, mountain climbing, ballooning and numerous other sports earned Marvingt the nickname “Fiancée of Danger.” Her biggest project was the idea of an “air ambulance,” using planes to rescue civilians or military casualties. She drew up a prototype, but took a hiatus for WWI as the first woman to fly combat missions. Later she established a civil air ambulance service in Morocco, consulted with government officials for their usage in WWII, fought in the French Resistance, and wrote, directed and appeared in two documentary films on the subject of air ambulances. Though she is not well known today outside of France, Marvingt accrued dozens of awards in her lifetime including 20 winter sports gold medals, as well as the French Academy’s only medal ever awarded for “all sports,” making her a contender for the most decorated person to have ever lived.

You can still get the Kickstarter version of the game at the Preorder Store.

Our next update will be on Thursday, July 2nd, 2020.

Thank you once again, to all of you, for your continued support, participation, and positivity.

Keep rollin' NINES!

20-06-04 - Here Come The Surveys! A Quick Survey FAQ; Honoring Two Of Steampunk Rally's Originals!
almost 4 years ago – Wed, Jun 10, 2020 at 02:36:08 PM

TL;DR: BackerKit survey links are being sent this weekend; some FAQs about how to fill them out are included below. Preorder store opens next week!

Team Roxley has been working hard to prepare the pledge manager for this campaign, and the first surveys are about to go out!

A small percentage of backers will be sent surveys today, as an initial "smoke test" of the system. Barring any issues, the remainder will be sent over the weekend. After you've all had the chance to choose your pledge levels and add-ons, we'll open the Preorder store next week for those who missed the campaign.

We hope the pledge manager will be fairly straightforward, but based on past experience, we've done our best to anticipate some of your more common questions, which we will answer below.

How to Change Your Pledge Level:

Should you need to change your pledge level, you can do this at any stage in the survey. From the initial survey screen, by clicking here:

You can also do this later in the process, by clicking here:

How To Get the $5 Atomic Box (Cosmetic) Upgrade:

To get your copy of Steampunk Rally Fusion Deluxe with the Atomic Edition box art (but without any of the added content from the original Steampunk Rally), you can change your pledge level using the instructions above, and select this option from the menu:

(It is also possible to use the Add-Ons section of the pledge manager to add a copy of this version of the game.)

How To Get The 20% Discount On Your Second Game:

After selecting your pledge level, the pledge manager will automatically ask you if you want this, and which version of the game you want for your second game (for purchases of one Deluxe Edition and one Atomic Edition, the discount will be calculated from the lower priced game).

A Note About Your Receipt: Due to setup limitations, all pledges have a base shipping charge that cannot be removed, so the shipping discount on two-game bundles will instead be pre-applied to the cost of the games, resulting in a correct final total.

(For those seeking four or more games total, additional two-game bundles with the discount factored in can be found in the Add-ons section.)

What Add-Ons Are Available?

Reminder: As a campaign backer, every Deluxe or Atomic Edition you order will already come with one 2020 Promo Pack at no additional charge. (More may be added in the Add-ons, should you want them.)

Due to popular demand, we're adding a selection of other Roxley titles that can be added on in the pledge manager, including Gorilla Marketing, Steampunk Rally (original retail edition), Super Motherload, Brass: Lancashire (Kickstarter Deluxe Edition), Brass: Birmingham (Kickstarter Deluxe Edition), the Iron Clays (printed boxes of 100, 200, and 400), and the Iron Spades. Several of these are available in never-before-offered bundles as well!

All add-ons purchased via the pledge manager will ship together with your pledge; we are not able to divide them into different shipping waves. (To get these games faster and/or to order Dice Throne or Dice Throne Adventures, visit roxley.com/game-shop instead.)

(Note: We are not able to supply component add-ons such as "upgrade kits", separate sets of dice/cogs, or updated cards at this time. We are still checking into the possibility of Tesla Edition cards.)

When Does This Need To Be Filled Out By?

The pledge manager is scheduled to lock down on June 30th; if possible, please have your survey filled out by then. If you miss this date, don't stress; your pledge will still be honored. (A short delay will not make much difference; a longer delay may result in an equivalent delay to your pledge shipping.)

What if I Can't Set Up My Desired Pledge?

If you have technical difficulties, the instructions are not clear, or you can't find the specific combination of pledge items you would like, please message [email protected] with the specifics of what you need and we'll be happy to follow up with you.

We're not yet finished highlighting the entire cast of Steampunk Rally Fusion... but for this update, we decided to instead shine the spotlight on two of our favorite characters from the original Steampunk Rally, George Washington Carver and Elijah J. McCoy.

(All inventors from the original game are in the Atomic Edition, so if that's the one you pledged for, both Carver and McCoy will be included in your copy.)

George Washington Carver (c. 1861 - 1943)

Born a slave and granted freedom with the Civil War, Carver wandered Missouri from a young age, determined to acquire knowledge so he could improve the world. Researching and teaching for 47 years at the underfunded Tuskegee Institute made him adept at making the most of minimal resources. He marketed dozens of products utilizing peanut oil and sweet potato, spurred improved farming techniques, and made forays into genetic engineering. Endlessly optimistic, patient, and affable, Time Magazine dubbed him the "Black Leonardo". His epitaph reads: "He could have added fortune to fame, but caring for neither, he found happiness and honor in being helpful to the world."

Elijah J. McCoy (1844-1929)

Born in Canada as the son of runaway slaves, McCoy's family moved back to the USA where he would start his career as a locomotive fireman, stoking fires and oiling engines. Despite attaining a degree in Edinburgh, racial discrimination prevented him from finding work as a mechanical engineer. This did not stop him from revolutionizing steam engine maintenance with his automatic lubricator in 1872, and he ultimately patented 50 designs that dealt with lubricating systems. The authenticity of McCoy's lubricating caps is rumored by some to be the origin of the phrase "The real McCoy".

We are expecting Preorder sales to go live next week; if you'd like an alert when they do, you can sign up HERE for an alert. Preorders placed before fulfillment begins will have their order shipped at the same time as regular backers and will have access to all Kickstarter content (although we will not be able to offer the same subsidized pricing and shipping campaign backers had).

(If you missed the campaign due to a Kickstarter technical problem, email us at [email protected] with the details, and we'll see what we can do to help.)

Our next update will be on Thursday, June 18th, 2020.

Thank you once again, to all of you, for your continued support, participation, and positivity.

Week One - Thank You from Designer Orin Bishop. Happy Birthday to our Spotlight Inventor, Andrei Sakharov!
almost 4 years ago – Fri, May 22, 2020 at 02:02:57 PM

TL;DR: Thank you from designer Orin Bishop. Inventor Spotlight on Andrei Sakharov. If there's an issue Kickstarter couldn't solve with your pledge financing, email [email protected]; we can help after the pledge manager is set up next week.

Hey everyone,

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, for sticking around on this crazy journey. I started designing the original game way back in 2007, which feels like multiple lifetimes ago, out of a fascination with steampunk's optimism. Despite looking backward, it also gazed forwards into a bright future that popular fiction seemed to have left behind. The kind of future I was hungry to imagine.

2020 has been a stressful time in the world. It humbles me that so many people have chosen to support my mad science-explosions game, with things as they are. I absolutely do not take that lightly, and I sincerely wish that the game brings you some levity and distraction.

But beyond this, it makes me think that I'm not the only one still hungry for that bright steampunk future. That even in tough times we can be generous, playful, and optimistic. And that thought brings me tremendous joy.

Keep rollin' nines!

-Orin Bishop

A very Happy Birthday goes out to the subject of today's Inventor Spotlight, Andrei Sakharov, born on this date in 1921!

Andrei Sakharov (1921-1989)

After significant contributions to Soviet nuclear research, Sakharov became concerned about the health effects of fallout from weapons testing. He also became wary of nuclear proliferation and began writing essays promoting controversial ideas such as world peace and how communist and capitalist philosophy might one day be hybridized. After Sakharov was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, the Soviet government prevented his trip to the award ceremony and attempted to censor his anti-war writings, and he was eventually exiled to the closed city of Gorky. Sakharov used hunger strikes to persuade Mikhail Gorbachev to allow his wife, fellow activist Yelena Bonner to travel to the United States for a heart surgery, where she was able to bring her husband’s plight to the attention of Western leaders, and Sakharov was subsequently released and allowed to continue the fight for peace and human rights.

His critical mix of scientific and political acumen may be needed if the war with Mars is to be averted...

WE'RE DONE! Thank You, From all of Team Roxley!
almost 4 years ago – Wed, May 20, 2020 at 04:15:29 AM

TL;DR: THANK YOU! The pledge manager will open in a couple of weeks' time, as well as Preorders for the public. What to do if you have payment or pledging issues (short version: Kickstarter will attempt to solve these until next week; after which you can email [email protected]).

ACHIEVEMENTS UNLOCKED:

8209 Backers!

998X% Funded!

We Need A Pit Stop!

It's been a heck of a race for Team Roxley; we're going to take a few days off to catch up on sleep, visit with our families and recover our energy, so we can be bright and fresh when we return to work first thing Tuesday morning (Monday is Victoria Day in Canada).

Kickstarter Payment Processing

Kickstarter will automatically bill your pledge to the credit card associated to your Kickstarter account. If there are any issues, they will automatically try to resolve them for several days; this process takes care of itself in most cases, but you can try to reach their support department if necessary at support (at) kickstarter.com if you have something special that needs to be asked or addressed. (Team Roxley does not have access to their payment and support portal during this time; we'll be happy to support you with any issues you have, but it will have to wait until they are finished and export the backer list to us).

The Pledge Manager

Over the next couple of weeks, we will be finalizing and testing the pledge manager. (Once we have this set up, we can start to assist backers who have any issues Kickstarter could not resolve in time.) When this is finished, you'll be automatically sent a survey link; in that survey, you'll have the option to confirm or change your pledge level and add-ons, provide your shipping address, and finalize any additional charges (or savings). Roxley will use a reputable and secure pledge management platform for this.

Missed the Deadline?

Sign up HERE for an alert when Preorder sales go live!

Ongoing Updates

As with our other Kickstarter projects, we want to keep our supporters up to date with all the news, so we will be publishing continuing updates until the games have been fulfilled (even if there's sometimes no real news to report, we still want to stay in touch; it's what we would prefer in your shoes).

Those of you who follow our social media channels already know we post regular images of our games and components; Steampunk Rally Fusion will now be added to the mix of those, so you'll be able to catch regular glimpses of additional content from the game by following us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. We'd love to see you joining the conversation at Boardgamegeek, and for all the news about our upcoming future projects, you can sign up for our newsletter at our new website at roxley.com, follow us right here on Kickstarter, and subscribe to our  YouTube channel.

Amelia Earhart (1897-1937)

Family financial troubles and a painful sinus issue contracted while working as a nurse in Toronto’s Spanish flu outbreak forced competitive flyer Amelia Earhart to abandon her university studies and sell her biplane “The Canary,” which she had flown to a record-setting 14,000 feet. Earhart remained involved in the aviation community, however, and after Charles Lindbergh’s solo flight across the Atlantic, she jumped at an offer (made partly because of their physical resemblance) to be the first woman to make the trip. She parlayed this into commercial advertising campaigns for various products and the promotion of commercial air travel, co-creating what would become Northeast Airlines. After becoming the first pilot to fly solo from Hawaii to the United States mainland, Earhart began planning her most ambitious trial: a flight around the world. Three-quarters of the way through the trip, she disappeared somewhere over the Pacific Ocean. For decades, fans have speculated about her fate.

Fewer still have speculated about the trace temporal-atmospheric signature of a bathyscaphe vessel...

As with any project of this scope, it is a daunting challenge to even begin to honor everyone whose contributions made Steampunk Rally Fusion a reality. Not everybody gets to be front and center in the credits, so we're also going to use this opportunity to shout out our thanks and appreciation to some of the team responsible for our success: Paul Saxberg, Adam Wyse, Sidharth Stephen, Mr. Cuddington, Gui Landgraf, Max Michael, Kira Anne Peavley, Gabriel Martin of Black Thumb Creations, Thomas Chretien of Lightning Boy Studio, Adrian Vaughan, Jason D. Kingsley, George Georgeadis of Oniro, Simon Rourke, Jeremy Salinas of Man Vs. Meeple, Richard Ham of Rahdo Runs Through, Jimmy Hudson & Tara Watson Hudson of Board Game Spotlight, Lance Myxter of the Undead Viking, as well as Diceroy/Demo-Gorgon Rick May and everyone else who has helped out with questions and answers in the comments section. (We could have easily listed a hundred more, so to everybody not named, please accept both our thanks and our apology. Dr. Poultry will see to it that the staff who forgot to list you are used as test subjects for his next experiments.)

Our next update will be Thursday, May 21st, 2020.

Thank you once again, to all of you, for your continued support, participation, and positivity.
