20-09-10 - Manufacturer Delay - Fulfillment Moves To November/December
over 3 years ago – Fri, Sep 11, 2020 at 01:01:20 AM

TL;DR: Our manufacturer is reporting unexpected delays. We are following up with them to try to reduce this, but fulfillment is now likely to be in November/December of this year.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Our manufacturer has updated us with a later date for finishing and shipping Steampunk Rally Fusion than we were originally quoted. It appears that while this is always a busy time of year for them as publishers push to get new games to market in time for Christmas, the demand is much higher than expected this year. They could have coped with this much more easily in 2019, but factories, shipping, and human resources are all operating under COVID-19-related safety protocols and disruptions.

WHAT THIS MEANS:

If we factor this delay into our schedule, we now estimate that fulfillment will begin in November, with the majority of backers receiving their games in late November and early December. (We are looking into a couple of logistical options that might be able to speed this up slightly; we'll update you if something better can be worked out.)

While this was a surprise to Team Roxley, we take responsibility for the delay, and offer our full apology to anyone affected. Please message us at [email protected] if you need to change your shipping address or any other details of your pledge because of this delay.

During our last update, we advised you that we were having some communications troubles with Kickstarter direct messaging... since then, we've unfortunately discovered a second problem: it appears that people who have been trying to reach us via BackerKit support have not been having their messages forwarded to us, due to one of our accounts being accidentally flagged as spam in their messaging system.

BackerKit support is sending us all of the affected messages so we can follow up with anyone affected, and we are working with both the Kickstarter and BackerKit teams to make sure that both of these technical issues are solved.

In the meantime, for speed and reliability, please send all new messages to us via [email protected]

We didn't expect to get so many amazing answers to this! Here are a few of our favorites:

Q: How many Steampunk Rally Inventors does it take to change a light bulb?

William Balvanz - It takes two. Nikola Tesla to create and replace the bulb, and Edison to take credit for it.

Proffejor - Marie Curie glaring at you while emitting a gentle glow: "You're not funny."

Patrick Kohler - 5 and a Janitor. The Janitor changes the bulb while the Inventors discuss how to improve the bulb

TV0R - I think better question is: How many lightbulbs it takes to change Steampunk Rally Inventor?

Minh Doan (answer #1) - If the inventor is Dr. Braun, then if his invention ever reaches 88MPH, then the light bulb would already be changed before the race has even begun.

Minh Doan (answer #6) - If it is Ada Lovelace, then it is irrelevant. She is a programmer. Changing a light bulb is a hardware issue.

GameFoundry - Five: In 1961, Robert Biard and Gary Pittman invented and patented an infrared LED for Texas Instruments. This was the first LED, however, being infrared it was beyond the visible light spectrum. In 1962, Nick Holonyack, a consulting engineer for General Electric, invented the first visible light LED, which was red. In 1976, Thomas P. Pearsall invented a high-efficiency and extremely bright LED for use in fiber optics and fiber telecommunications. And in In 1994, Shuji Nakamura invented the first blue LED using gallium nitride. These five pioneers of science changed the light bulb.

20-08-27 - Production Continues
over 3 years ago – Sat, Aug 29, 2020 at 02:36:08 PM

TL;DR: No news is good news! Game production is in full swing. Team Roxley are hard at work on other projects.

It is Roxley's policy to provide regular updates to backers, even when there is little to report... which is the case right now. Manufacturing is proceeding as we speak, with no changes to report since the previous update.

One small note about messaging: Both Roxley and Dice Throne recently discovered that some of our answers via Kickstarter's direct-messaging system have not been going through. We've established a workaround for this, so everyone affected is already being followed up on, but for reliability and speed, we recommend that for the next little while, all questions and communications to us should be sent by email at [email protected], rather than via Kickstarter direct messaging, while we work with Kickstarter to solve this more permanently.

Q. How many Steampunk Rally Inventors does it take to change a light bulb?

Best answer wins a pony!*

20-08-13 - Fulfillment Begins in October. Vac Tray Sample Images. Digital Rulebook Released!
over 3 years ago – Mon, Aug 17, 2020 at 11:08:47 AM

TL;DR: Due to corrections required to the rulebook, a slight production delay means fulfillment will now begin mid-October. Vac tray sample images below. Digital rules now available at roxley.com.

Due to some last minute resubmissions of revised files, there has been a slight delay in manufacturing. Team Roxley apologizes for this delay, but we feel it is important that you, as original backers, get as accurately printed a product as possible, and not to have to rely on errata or corrections delivered after the fact. Manufacturing is proceeding full speed ahead, and is projected to finish on or before October 8th.

While we still cannot guarantee shipping and delivery dates due to the continued risk of industry disruptions and delays due to COVID-19, we are now expecting fulfillment to begin in October and to be finishing in November.

The final samples mentioned in the previous update arrived, and have been signed off on. We thought you might like to see some images of the final vac tray prototype:

Cards fit nicely, with or without sleeves. (Pictured: 57mm x 89mm sleeves from Fantasy Flight)
34 Inventor standees, 8 lightbulbs, 12 challenge tiles, 1 turn order token... still room to spare.
108 Steampunk Rally dice and 18 Fusion-sized stand-ins fitting nicely!

The rulebook, including the long-awaited Solo Rules, is now available in PDF format.

20-07-31 - Production Begins! Digital Rulebook Coming Soon!
over 3 years ago – Sat, Aug 01, 2020 at 03:29:39 AM

TL;DR: All digital proofs approved. Manufacturing is beginning. Rulebook to be released digitally soon.

All Printed Content - Since the last update, digital proofs of all of the printed material for the game were sent to us by the manufacturer. Team Roxley went over these with a fine toothed comb, making several minor revisions and corrections before resubmitting them. We have now signed off on the corrected digital proofs and the manufacturer is officially beginning the printing process.

Physical Components - We are still awaiting final physical samples of the Secret Project Card Clips, Fusion Dice, and the Vac Tray, but based on how close the current samples are, we expect to be able sign off on these without delay.

Today's question comes from several different backers:

Q. "If the rulebook's done, can you publish a digital copy?"

A. Yes - this will be coming soon!

The files for this need to be converted into a web publishable format. The graphics team are already at work on other games, but this isn't a huge job; we should be able to squeeze it into their schedule between now and the next update. Solo rules compatible with the original Steampunk Rally will be included!

If anyone missed the campaign, you can still get the Kickstarter version of the game at the Preorder Store.

Our next update is scheduled for Thursday, August 13th, 2020.

Thank you once again, to all of you, for your continued support, participation, and positivity.

20-07-16 - Rulebook Complete; Awaiting Final Samples
almost 4 years ago – Fri, Jul 17, 2020 at 01:44:36 AM

TL;DR: All rules, graphics, and visuals have been finalized; we are waiting on final samples of a handful of components. Once these are approved, we can begin manufacturing. Barring flaws in these samples or COVID-19 disruptions, we remain on schedule to begin fulfillment in August/September.

Rulebook - Completed! Jason Kingsley put a huge amount of work into the layout and the visual look. Adam Wyse has also taken it for a spin with a few blind playtesting groups to ensure it is comprehensive and easy to use.  As promised, the rulebook also includes rules for solo mode developed by Orin Bishop, which is awesome and intense!

Printed Content - We finally submitted the files to the manufacturer last Friday.  This took us longer than we originally anticipated, as we needed to ensure that the rulebook was compatible with all versions of the game.  As a comprehensive and intuitive rulebook is the most important barrier to people actually playing the game, it was of paramount importance to spend the extra time to ensure it is polished and usable. Once we receive digital proofs, we will be going over them with a fine toothed comb to ensure that everything looks in order.  Then it is on to manufacturing!

Metal Cogs - These have been approved for production.

Red, Yellow, & Blue Energy Dice - These have been approved for production

Secret Project Card Clips - In our latest sample, the clips were not gripping the cards well enough. We've asked the manufacturer to correct this issue, and are awaiting new samples.

Fusion Dice - We have received color samples that we are satisfied with, but want to see if we can push the brightness of them even further.  We have asked for a slight color adjustment and are currently awaiting new samples.

Vac Tray - We have approved the color of the vac tray, and are currently awaiting samples.

Once all of the samples are approved, we will be ready to print!

Today's question comes from KingOfOdonata:

"Do we know what the complete card count is for the base game, expansions, and promos? I'm looking into getting card sleeves, so I was hoping to how an exact count for the order. Thanks."

Including machine parts, boost cards, player aid, inventor cards, Secret Projects, and Events, here are the card counts included in each version of the game:

Steampunk Rally - Fusion Deluxe: 240 cards (Includes 10 from the Promo Pack)

Steampunk Rally - Atomic Edition: 432 cards (includes 10 from the Promo Pack)

All of the above cards are 89mm x 57mm (3.5" x 2.25").

The remaining cards from the 2020 Promo Pack are:

- 3 double height cards (Ignacy Lukasiewicz, Zhuge Liang & Lady Huang, and Lizzie Magie) at 89mm x 114mm (3.5"x4.5").

- 2 double length cards (Dr. Braun & Red Green) at 178mm x 57mm (7"x2.25").

- 1 double height and length card (Rube Goldberg) at 178mm x 114mm (7"x4.5").

Roxley does not currently make sleeves for these, but the community on Boardgamegeek has created a geeklist for exactly this purpose which may be helpful for those looking to purchase some.

If anyone missed the campaign, you can still get the Kickstarter version of the game at the Preorder Store.

Our next update will be on Thursday, July 30th, 2020.

Thank you once again, to all of you, for your continued support, participation, and positivity.
